Highlights: "Women in Early Music"

On 25 January 2023, I had the wonderful opportunity of presenting a lecture-recital at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Singapore. I presented a mixed harpsichord and fortepiano program centered around the roles of women in 17th and 18th century western European music as composers, performers, patrons, dedicatees and muses. It was heartening to see members of the faculty and many piano students of the conservatory at the recital, some of whom were even diligently taking notes! My family also turned up as my longest and most dedicated supporters. Perhaps the most heartwarming was seeing members of the public, complete strangers to me, showing up and just enjoying the music.

I rarely get the chance to perform both harpsichord and fortepiano on the same concert, so it was particularly special to be able to do this at my alma mater. It was an extraordinary feeling to see the professors who had invested in my musical journey years ago, sitting in the audience while I shared with them the music and instruments closest to my heart.

Many enthusiastic audience members came up to the instruments after the recital and tried them out. I was only too happy to answer their questions!
